Lower scores for female fourth-grade students in 24 states/jurisdictions compared to 2019
While average scores decreased between 2019 and 2022 for Black, Hispanic and White students and for male and female students nationally, scores were lower for these groups in only some states. White students in 12 states/jurisdictions, Black students in 8 states/jurisdictions, and Hispanic students in 10 states/jurisdictions scored lower in 2022 than 2019. Female students scored lower in 24 states/jurisdictions in 2022, whereas male fourth-graders scored lower in 15 states/jurisdictions.
