Average scores in NAEP writing for eighth-grade public school students, by jurisdiction: 2002 and 2007
Findings
- Average scores in Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles increased in 2007 when compared to 2002. The apparent increase in Houston was not statistically significant.
- When compared to large central city schools nationally, average scores in 2007 were higher or comparable for students in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, New York City, and San Diego, and lower in Cleveland and Los Angeles.
