State Average Scores
When comparing state/jurisdiction average scores in reading for fourth-grade public school students in 2017 with those from 2015, the previous assessment year,
- no states/jurisdictions scored higher,
- 9 states/jurisdictions scored lower, and
- 43 states/jurisdictions had no significant change in scores.

To view the extent of score changes for fourth-grade public school students in reading between 2017 and previous assessment years, use the drop-down menu to select a comparison year. The results will show the size of the score change between the selected comparison year and 2017 for each state/jurisdiction. To see whether the score change in one state/jurisdiction is statistically different from the score change in another state/jurisdiction, use the NAEP State Profiles Tool.
