Classroom Context: Civics Topics

As part of the 2010 civics assessment, fourth-, eighth-, and twelfth-graders were asked about the types of civics topics they studied. The figures below provide the percentages of students who responded that they had studied civics topics within each category shown.

Grade 12

While 82 percent of eighth-graders reported studying the United States Constitution, only 33 percent reported studying international organizations (such as the United Nations).
