Geography Coursetaking

As part of the 2010 geography assessment, eighth-graders' school administrators were asked to indicate in what grade students in their school typically take a course in geography. The percentages of students whose administrators responded in each category are below. Administrators could pick more than one category if the course was offered at multiple grades.

Grade 4
Grade 8
Grade 12

Thirty-eight percent of eighth-graders had school administrators who reported that students in their school took a course in geography in the seventh grade. Thirty-three percent of eighth-graders had school administrators who reported that students in their school were not offered a class in geography.

Geography Instruction: Grade 8 percentage of students

NOTE: Totals may sum to more than 100 because students could take a geography course in more than one grade. Some apparent differences between estimates may not be statistically significant. See complete data for the following: geography course in 6th grade, geography course in 7th grade, geography course in 8th grade, geography course in 9th grade, this course is not offered in my school.
