As part of the 2011 science assessment, teachers of eighth-graders were asked about the amount of time students spent doing hands-on activities or investigations in science. The full text of the question and the percentage of students for each response category are below.

In 2011, fifty-six percent of eighth-grade students in the nation had teachers who asked them to do hands-on science activities or investigations once or twice a week.
