English Language Learners Make Gains at Grades 4 and 8

Fourth-grade students identified as being English language learners (ELL) who could be assessed had higher average science scores and higher percentages of students performing at or above Basic in 2005 than in previous assessment years.
Eighth-grade students identified as English language learners who could be assessed had higher average science scores in 2005 than in 1996.
The average science scores of twelfth-graders identified as being English language learners were not significantly different in 2005 than in previous assessment years.
