Percentages of Students in States and Jurisdictions Identified, Excluded, and Assessed in Science

NAEP has always endeavored to assess all students selected as a part of its sampling process, including students who are classified by their schools as students with disabilities (SD) and/or as English language learners (ELL). The decision to exclude any of these students is made by school personnel. School personnel are encouraged to use inclusion criteria provided by NAEP and may discuss their inclusion decisions with NAEP field staff. Some students may participate with testing accommodations.

# The estimate rounds to zero.

1 Accommodations were not permitted in 1996 for state sample at grade 8.

2 Department of Defense Education Activity. Before 2005, DoDEA overseas and domestic schools were separate jurisdictions in NAEP. For this table, 2000 data presented here were recalculated for comparability.

NOTE: Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding. Prior to 2005, students were identified as either English language learners (ELL) or non-ELL; in 2005, students were identified as ELL, non-ELL, or formerly ELL.
