English Language Learners

The average reading score for eighth-graders attending public schools was higher in 2011 than in both 1992 and 2009. The score for students attending Catholic schools was higher in 2011 than in 1992, but was not significantly different from the score in 2009.

Sample sizes were insufficient to permit reliable estimates for Bureau of Indian Education students in 1992–2003, Department of Defense students in 1992–1998, and other private school students in 2005–2011.
