As part of the 2010 geography assessment, teachers of fourth-graders were asked to indicate the frequency in which they taught various skills and topics as part of geography instruction. The percentages of students whose teachers responded in each category are below.

Grade 4
Grade 8
Grade 12

All but 1 percent of fourth-graders had teachers who reported using maps and globes as a part of geography instruction, while approximately one-quarter of students had teachers who reported never or hardly ever studying other countries and cultures (26 percent), space and place (25 percent), and spatial dynamics and connections (25 percent).
