Classroom Context: Number of Pages Read

 

As part of the 2009 reading assessment, fourth-, eighth-, and twelfth-graders were asked about the number of pages they read in school and for homework each day. The full text of the question, corresponding percentages, and average scores of students who responded in each category are below.

About how many pages a day do you have to read in school and for homework?

A. 5 or fewer
B. 6–10
C. 11–15
D. 16–20
E. More than 20

Grade 4
Grade 8
Grade 12

Twelfth-graders who read at least six to ten pages per day (286, 293, 299, 302 respectively) in school and for homework scored higher than those who read five or fewer pages (277).
